Russell Slocum

Russell Slocum is best known for his landscape paintings of Southeastern Pennsylvania and the coast of Maine. He works primarily in oils, occasionally in pastels. Many of his landscapes are done en plein air, at least in part. The rest are painted from his own studies and photos. Since 2017 his work has earned awards in competitions including River Townes Plein Air, Plein Air West Reading, Berks Art Alliance Juried Exhibitions, Berks Art Alliance Member Exhibitions, Scenes of the Schuylkill, Berks Senior Arts Festivals, and the F.H. Gaige Memorial Exhibition at Freyberger Gallery, Penn State Berks.
He is co-director of Art Plus Gallery, West Reading, where his work can always be seen, and is the co-founder of Plein Air West Reading, now in its eighth year. He also represented by Landing Gallery in Rockland, Maine and Visual Expansion Gallery, West Chester. He and his wife Ann live in Wyomissing, PA.
GETTING HERE: In 2014, Russ left a 40-year career in advertising as an agency owner, creative director and copywriter, and turned his life-long hobby of painting landscapes into his full-time profession. During that first stretch he also published articles in The New York Times Magazine, Playboy, Verbatim: The Language Quarterly and Atlantic; wrote two dozen children's story-coloring books; and co-authored The Bit Ching Book of Change.
